A managed Proxmox Backup Server datastore that OneColo operates for you. After ordering you receive a hostname, datastore name, API token, and TLS fingerprint; add it as storage in Proxmox VE and start backing up — see How to Add a Hosted Proxmox Backup Server to Proxmox VE.
Pay As You Grow does not include the PBS web interface or shell access: we handle the server, storage, updates, and verification. If you want direct WebUI and sudo control, choose a reserved instance.
$6.95 per month includes your first 1 TB. Beyond that, storage is billed at $6.95 per TB (about $0.007 per GB), measured on the deduplicated, compressed data actually stored — not the raw size of your VMs.
For example: 2 TB is about $13.90, 5 TB about $34.75, and 10 TB about $69.50 per month. Billing is monthly with no setup fee or contract, and monthly transfer is included with no egress charges. Order on the Proxmox Backup page.
Yes. A push sync job from your own on-premises Proxmox Backup Server (version 3.3 or newer) is configured on your side: you add OneColo as a remote using your token and push snapshots to us on whatever schedule you like.
Pull jobs, remotes, and additional tokens live on OneColo's server, so on Pay As You Grow they are set up by our admins. Open a support ticket describing the source, the target namespace, and the schedule, and we configure it for you. The full comparison is in Push vs. Pull Sync Jobs in Proxmox Backup Server.
Yes. Namespaces keep multiple clusters or clients separated inside your datastore, each with its own retention — ideal for MSPs and for anyone backing up more than one Proxmox cluster.
On Pay As You Grow, namespaces are created by our admins. Open a support ticket with the namespace names you need (and which tokens should be able to write to each), and we set them up. Once created, you target a namespace from the Proxmox VE storage configuration or from a sync job. Details in Using Namespaces in Proxmox Backup Server.
Yes. Proxmox VE and proxmox-backup-client support client-side AES-256-GCM encryption at the chunk level, so data is encrypted before it leaves your network. Deduplication still works because chunks are hashed before encryption.
You hold the encryption key. Keep a copy of the key file and the printed paper key somewhere safe — OneColo cannot read encrypted backups without your key, and cannot recover your data if the key is lost.
Yes. Proxmox Backup Server verification jobs re-read every chunk of a snapshot and re-check its checksum, which catches silent corruption long before you need a restore. On Pay As You Grow we schedule verification for you; the result shows on each snapshot in Proxmox VE. Underneath, ZFS checksums every block on disk as a second layer of protection.
Retention is set on the backup job in Proxmox VE (keep-last, keep-daily, keep-weekly, keep-monthly, keep-yearly), and Proxmox applies it after each run. Pruning removes snapshot indexes; the space itself is reclaimed by garbage collection on the server, which we run for you on Pay As You Grow.
If you want a datastore-level prune policy or a different garbage-collection schedule on Pay As You Grow, open a ticket and we configure it. On a reserved instance you manage these yourself in the PBS web interface.
No inbound ports. Your Proxmox hosts connect outbound to our endpoint on TCP 8007 over TLS, which works from behind NAT with no VPN required. The only exception is a pull sync job where OneColo's server reaches into your on-premises PBS — that needs port 8007 reachable on your side, which is why most customers use a push job instead.
Pay As You Grow provisions automatically after checkout, usually within minutes; reserved instances are typically ready within hours. You will find the hostname, datastore name, API token, and TLS fingerprint in your OneColo control panel, under the service's details.
In Proxmox VE go to Datacenter → Storage → Add → Proxmox Backup Server, paste the details, approve the fingerprint, and run a backup. The step-by-step guide walks through every field, including encryption.
Choose a reserved Dedicated Instance when you want the PBS web interface and sudo access to manage your own datastores, users, sync jobs, and prune schedules; when your usage passes roughly 10 TB and reserved capacity becomes cheaper per TB; or when you need bare-metal isolation (the 100 TB tier is your own physical server).
Most customers start on Pay As You Grow and upgrade later. When you do, we migrate your existing backups to the new instance. Tiers and pricing are on the Proxmox Backup page.
In OneColo's downtown Tampa, Florida data center on our own network (AS12083), with 24/7 on-site security, controlled access, redundant power, and redundant carriers. Backup storage is direct-attached SAS on ZFS with NVMe metadata drives for fast snapshot browsing and restores. Learn more about the facility.
Pay As You Grow includes monthly transfer with no egress fees. Reserved tiers include monthly transfer equal to their storage tier (for example, 25 TB of transfer on the 25 TB instance), and the first month is unmetered so you can seed a large initial backup. Links run at 1–10 Gbps as standard, with 25 Gbps available.
